I'm making socks for myself. I bought a new book by Nancy Bush. Nancy re-worked sock patterns from Weldon's Practical Needlework from the late 1800's. There are some pretty fancy socks in here and I'm a little ashamed to admit that I'm tackling a plain old ribbed sock.
You got to start somewhere right? Above is the cuff. I'm already into the rib pattern, but I don't have an updated pic.
So... size 1 needles. I don't know how I feel about these. Pretty tiny. This is my first pair of socks not on a magic loop. I'm not sure how I feel about that either. I figured if I was going with classic patterns, I'd try the classic method. These are noisier than Addi's, which doesn't bother me but it might bother my traveling companions on the train.
Me + Cherry Tree = love.

Elmore-Pisgah

I have no idea how to pronounce the company name, but I got a package from the lovely makers of Peaches & Cream 100% cotton yarn today. I ordered the "Mason-Dixon Pre-Pack Kit" which is a 12 pack of assorted colors. I'm so excited about this. I'm going to make Ballband Dishcloths.
I know!! It IS exciting!!!
Shitty McGillicutty
We've got a problem. I got a fever and it's not for more cowbell. It's 68 degrees outside right now. I'm walking around Cambridge with no coat and my favorite iced coffee in my hand. Even though it's going to snow Friday, this is a reminder that spring is coming.
Spring brings sunshine, warmth, outside activities... all these things take me away from knitting. Last year I quit knitting completely between May and August. This notion hit me when I was walking around with no coat. What do I do with the blog? Do I shut down? I don't have much interesting to talk about other than knitting (and let's be honest... the knitting ain't all that interesting at times). So I pose a couple options:
Fishy McGillicutty - I fly fish. Yes. I do. So I could tell you about the gear I've got, the latest catch, etc.
Hounds McGillicutty - I could post a daily pic of my fabulously talented (and by that I mean the ability to lay on the couch and sleep 14+ hours a day) greyhounds.
Dirty McGillicutty - Wait. Not that dirty! I could talk about my garden. I always have a small vegetable thing going on, plus flowers, etc.
Got anything better? Should we start a poll to see if I actually stop knitting? Should we vote on what I should blog about if I stop knitting? Should I just shut down for summer?

Look at this!

I cast this on Friday morning on the train. I finished it Sunday night! Officially my first completed sweater! Pretty sweet, huh?
The woman who cuts my hair is due in May and my last appointment with her is Saturday. She's having a girl and this pic doesn't do the cuteness justice. It's all orangey and pink. I also found the PERFECT buttons to match. I'm hoping to put the buttons on and block. Anyone know if I should block then button or button then block? I'm leaning towards button then block.
I did learn a bunch with this. My gauge was off by one stitch and it did make the whole thing smaller. I don't really care, cuz it'll still work. Plus, I got to experience stockinette stitch again... which is the gauge instigator. More info for the file...
