Dish Cloths

I've been trying not to knit. Seriously. Fly fishing aggravated the soreness I was experiencing before the trip. I'm definitely in carpal tunnel land. I've visited before unfortunately due to speed typing at a previous job. Hopefully this time will be short. I think I am officially off for the week. I could not stop knitting today. I started the green dish cloth and could not stop (mostly because Hubby wanted to watch Apocalypto. I had to keep knitting so that I didn't pee my pants in fear. I'm going to have nightmares for sure.):

I'm practicing for dish rag tag. It starts Aug. 1st. I'm pretty inexperienced with dish cloth patterns, so I figured I'd try some out. The blue is yesterday's work and green today's. Simple knitting and my wrists still hurt. Must get healthy to support my team - #15!!

Don't expect much productivity from me this week. I'll be icing my hands.

Sunday, July 1

What I did on my summer vacation:

  • Ate 4 green chili cheeseburgers & fried zucchini with ranch on the side. So bad, it's good.
  • Did not get enough Willie Nelson. I don't think I can.
  • Tied my own fly fishing rig the entire time.
  • Knit a dish cloth. Gave it to my mother-in-law yesterday.
  • Met Peggy. The San Juan's best guide. She's the Yoda of fly fishing.
  • Went to Sante Fe for the first time. Saw a cool classic car show.
  • Went through O'Hare and Dallas-Fort Worth, both for the first time.
  • Finished one book, read another, started a third. (Have you read the Stephanie Plum books? I'm totally hooked.)
  • Saw a lizard. One of those little ones.
  • Dreamt about buying a pick-up truck for Hubby.
  • Met a lot of lonely fishermen. It breaks my heart a little. They just want someone to talk to. One guy in particular. I just knew he was a widower. He hung out with us for two days. He knew a lot about fishing.
  • Ate WAY too much meat. I'll be strictly veggies for the month of July... except for that hot dog yesterday. Moment of weakness.
  • Did not knit for three whole days.
  • Witnessed 2 fishing fights. There's no actually fighting, although seeing two grown men fight in waders would be cool. Fishing fights are just exchanges of harsh words over territory. There's this whole "river etiquette" thing. My favorite was when one guy yelled "SCREW YOU!" I spent the rest of the week imitating him.
  • Did not get sun burnt.
  • Took my new favorite photos:

  • Saw two bounty hunters transporting a fugitive - on. my. flight.
  • Got a fishing tan. Fishing tan = tan on 1/2 of backside of hands.
  • Made "Top Five" lists, High Fidelity style, with Hubby in honor of our 5th.
  • Caught 16+ inch fish on a size 22 hook. Size 22 is small. You wouldn't believe I caught big fish on them. Really, you wouldn't believe it.
  • Saw only one other woman on the river (not counting Peggy).
  • Listened to country music when in the car.
  • Experienced "delayed baggage." Our fly rods did not meet us when we arrived back in Boston on Saturday. They were delivered this morning at 6:58am. Good thing we weren't in the shower. I would've cried.
  • Got completely caught up on laundry before I left.
  • Had great hair. There's no humidity in New Mexico.
  • Bought too many flies. It's just so much fun to pick them out.
  • Lost two flies the entire time. Last year, I think I only kept two flies.
  • Had one fish take me almost into my backing. That means he took my line close to 90 feet!
  • Gotta say, didn't miss technology. A couple days without a cell phone or internet would normally give me the shakes. Don't worry. I'm not packing it up... yet.
