Dearest sister,

These are for you:

Remember this yarn? I was so excited about it. I was certain that you would love it. As these socks took shape and the orange blended with the stripes and spots of "burgundy" (The colorway is Sangria after all. But when it's knit it looks purple to me.), a voice in the back of my head said, "These are not pretty. Who picked out these colors?!?! Orange and purple?!?!"

But you must understand my intention. Hand knit socks are comfy, warm and special. This yarn is handpainted with love in Maine. When knitting socks I constantly think of this:
"I knit socks because they are an unmistakable expression of love, simply because they do not last forever." ~Yarn Harlot
It was not supposed to turn out like this.I'm still not sure if they are good looking at all. I am reminded of Garfield or Crookshanks when I look at them. Maybe I've turned into that crazy lady who knits crazy, terrible, ugly things and thrusts them upon relatives? If this is the case, I would hope that you would sit me down and have "the talk."

I don't envision or hope that you will rip off your shoe at every chance and stick your wool clad foot in the air and yell "My brilliant sister hand knit these socks!!" However, I do hope that you will spend a Saturday or two on the couch in pj pants and a comfy Browns sweatshirt with feet warmed by hand knit socks.

Perhaps you can find it in your heart to forgive a sister that would knit you socks the color of newt vomit?

Love,
haddy

PS - We should talk about how to wash these.

I would (and do) totally do this all the time! I think they look amazing and would show them off at every chance! Congrats on the great socks!

as for the washing... you do realize that she'll be sending them to you every time they need washing right? :)
